The River

As a society we need a place to go to honour our loved ones. We need a place to be able to connect with those we’ve lost.

When you lose a child it is so hard to let go. My son’s father and I could not bear to bury our son.

With no gravesite to visit, I have been going to the river where our son took his last breath, and I find peace and a connection there.

Today I went to the river with CJ’s beautiful sister and brother in law. They made a memorial for him. When we were looking for trees to put it on, we found the perfect tree. And then we noticed an unusual thing. The tree we had picked was holding up another tree.

CJ and I use to talk all the time about leaning on someone for help. He always said that if one person leans on someone over and over, the person would eventually fall over. But if they lean on each other, they hold each other up.

These two trees are the living embodiment of CJ’s words.

A fitting place to honour him.
