Spirit of Giving

C.J. and I often had discussions on how people lived. What we discussed was the three state of minds - past, present, and future.

C.J believed that those who lived in the past were sad people. Always trying to hold on to what had been, instead of learning from the past, letting go, and moving on. He didn't believe in forgetting the past, just that it should not hold you back from living.

C.J wasn't any happier with those who always lived in the future. He believed that their lives were full of needless worry, always trying to control what came next. And in the end, trying to control it or not, life happens and comes as it does.

The only truly content people, he believed were those who lived mainly in the present.  They may look back to remember and forward to plan, but they stayed centered on the present.

Today is November 25th. Exactly one month until Christmas.

Holiday time no matter what your religious beliefs.

Around this time, so many people tend to become past or future thinkers. Especially future. Planning and getting the gifts, planning and making the meals, planning and giving the parties.  And often the holidays are gone and you look up and realize you were so caught in the planning, you forgot to come back to the present and enjoy the days.

So this year, for yourself and to honour CJ Moore stay in the present. Live in the moment. Make cookies with your children, don't try to answer emails while they are. Decorate the tree, don't answer the phone. Go spend time with your aging parents, and slow down time to just sit and be. Make sure each day, each event is in the moment.

Because according to C.J. then you will be as happy, as content as you can be
