Olympic Dreams

The winter Olympics is on and it brings me back to when CJ was younger. It didn't matter if it was the winter or summer olympics, our TV was on 24/7 to catch whatever sport we could.

CJ had a dream of making it to the Olympics for Diving, but he was not short on talent in other sports. In fact, he was pretty darn good at whatever he tried. I think natural athletes are like that.

In the winter, he loved the winter sports. He skated and skiied and snowboarded. When he was really young, he joined ski racing. Now his small stature was very suited to diving. It allowed him to tuck tighter and spin faster. But - downhill racing, not so much.

He was actually pretty good at it for his size, on the large courses.

One winter season, his skiing took him to a race at a place called Boler Mountain. Now the word "Mountain" is doing a lot of heay lifting here. It was outside of London, Ontario and to call anything around there a "mountain" is a stretch.

CJ started off the race well, but just near the bottom, the slope of the run mostly disappeared. With his small stature, he basically came to a complete stop. We were at the bottom, laughing up at him, as he laughingly cross country skied to the finish. I am sure he placed last.

That sport was never going to bring him to the Olympic dream he craved, but he still loved the sport and watched the Winter Olympics every year.

I so wish he was here to watch it now
